Finland's sword-bearing metal merchants Ensiferum are back with a crushing new mini-CD, filled to the brim with melodies honouring the Nordic pagan heritage, delivered with the firm conviction of seasoned professionals they are! Indeed, the band just celebrated their 10th anniversary in a concert on New Year's Eve, and it is now confirmed that there'll be a spectacular DVD release of the said show in stores within this very year!
After a successful trip to Copenhagen's legendary Sweet Silence Studies to record with Flemming Rasmussen (known for his ground-breaking work with Metallica in their speed metallic prime), the Ensiferum longship landed nearer home this time around, and the band entered Sonic Pump Studios for the recording of the present opus "Dragonheads". The resulting sound is crisp and loud, presenting no disappointment for the hordes of Ensiferum fans worldwide. "Dragonheads" is an excellent follow-up to the past two albums "Ensiferum" (2001) and "Iron" (2004) and a good point to catch up while waiting for the eventual album number #3 of this hardworking group. A heartfelt medley of Finnish folk favourites ("Karjalan kunnailla", "Myrskyluodon Maija" & "Metsämiehen laulu") performed in the unique Ensiferum style closes the mini-album.
"Dragonheads" is also the first Ensiferum recording to feature Petri Lindroos from Norther as a full member of the band on guitar and growling vocals, filling the boots left by Jari Mäenpää (now pursuing a successful solo career with Wintersun). While Petri takes care of the rough vocal parts, the band's founding member, guitarist Markus Toivonen has taken up the task of singing the clean vocal melodies from this mini-album on! Other newcomers since the last album are Janne Parviainen (ex-Barathrum, ex-Waltari) on drums, who replaced Oliver Fokin; and bassist Sami Hinkka, who not only plays bass but also backs up Markus' clean vocals. The line-up is completed with Meiju Enho on keyboards.
A busy schedule lies ahead for Ensiferum. Folk metal enthusiasts look no further, but don your battle gear and line up for the storm to come!
